NAR Responds to Proposed Changes to Appraiser Qualifications
April 1, 2026
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) recently submitted comments on proposed updates to appraiser qualification standards, expressing support for a more flexible, competency-based approach to entering the profession. NAR praised the Appraiser Qualification Board’s draft for moving away from rigid, time-based requirements and toward modernized pathways that better reflect how professionals gain skills. However, NAR emphasized that the proposal should go further by formally recognizing the real-world valuation experience and education that real estate agents and brokers develop in their day-to-day work.
