Staff at the City of Dunwoody have recommended to the Mayor and Council a new ordiance that will require all new gated developments to install an RFID/SOS gate access system to allow easier access for emergency vehicles. An added expense for new developments with controlled access.
A new proposal will go before the Dunwoody Council requiring all new residential and commercial developments with gated access to install a new system that will allow for silent radio or siren-activated access by emergency vehicles. Currently, this system is required for only residential developments with controlled access and the City assumes the cost of the RFID/SOS system.
Under the current proposal, ANY new development with controlled access will now be required to specifically use an RFID/SOS system and incure the cost of installation. This will definitely add to the increasing costs of development. According to City staff, this system offers a faster, more efficient response by first responders and law enforcement. The Governmental Affairs Committee will be working with the Mayor and Council to come to the best outcome.
