At a press conference earlier this week, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms unveiled her housing affordability plan, on which she campaigned in 2017.
Billed as the “One Atlanta: Housing Affordability Action Plan,” Mayor Bottoms outlined the vision for making Atlanta more affordable for those wanting to call Atlanta home. The question remains, what effect will this plan have on the real estate industry?
The Mayor’s “One Atlanta Action Plan” is based on 13 initiatives and 45 actions to achieve four goals. The four goals are to (1) create/preserve 20,000 affordable homes by 2026, (2) Invest $1 Billion of public/private sources into the effort, (3) Ensure equitable growth in Atlanta and (4) Support innovation and streamline governmental processes.
Our association has representation on the Mayor’s “HouseATL” committee, which works to provide input on these and other policy issues. A more in depth analysis on the Mayor’s plans will be discussed by the Governmental Affairs Committee and disseminated to the membership.
